Katia Vega

Assistant Professor, Department of Design, University of California, Davis, USA Katia Vega is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Design at the University of California, Davis, where she founded and directs the Interactive Organisms Lab. Her research leads new explorations of organisms-device symbiosis. She was a Postdoc Associate at MIT Media Lab (USA). She got my PhD and Master degree in Computer Science at PUC-Rio (Brazil). She was a researcher in the Fine Arts Department at HKBU (Hong Kong). Her undergraduate studies were done in Computer Science at UNMSM (Peru). She publishes at top-tier computer science conferences and journals including CHI, TEI, DIS, IUI and IEEE Computer. Her work has been featured by BBC, New Scientist, Wired, Discovery, CNN, and awarded by SXSW, Ars Electronica, Ubimedia Competition, among others. Springer published her book: "BeautyTechnology: Designing Seamless Interfaces for Wearable Computing". |

Cindy Hsin-Liu Kao

Assistant Professor, Cornell University, USA Director, Hybrid Body Lab Dr. Kao is an Assistant Professor in Design+Environmental Analysis, with field faculty appointments in Information Science, and Electrical & Computer Engineering at Cornell University. She founded and directs the Hybrid Body Lab. Her research practice themed Hybrid Body Craft blends aesthetic and cultural perspectives into the design of on-body interfaces. She also creates novel processes for crafting technology close to the body. Her research has received several Honorable Mention/Best Paper Awards in top CS conferences (ACM ISWC, CHI, UIST, and DIS) while receiving media coverage by CNN, TIME, Forbes, Fast Company, WIRED. Her work has been exhibited internationally at the Pompidou Centre, the Boston Museum of Fine Art, Ars Electronica, New York Fashion Week, along with recognitions from the design community through the A'Design Award, the Fast Company Innovation by Design Award Finalist, an Ars Electronica STARTS Prize Nomination, and the SXSW Interactive Innovation Award. She holds a Ph.D. from the MIT Media Lab. |
Leslie Thomas

Co-Founder, Factory 404, USA Leslie joined the entrepreneur ranks and co-founded Factory 404 in August 2016, a design and prototyping studio that delivers product design, development and small batch production of high-end apparel & soft goods, with specialization in rapid prototyping of wearable technology products developed from experimental fiber textiles. Factory 404 is member of AFFOA (Advanced Functional Fabrics of America) and has worked in partnership to design, develop and produce apparel prototypes with integrated advanced monofilaments. Leslie is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis with a BA in Mathematics and studied Fashion Design and Apparel Construction at Savannah College of Art and Design. She currently serves as a Board Member of Fashion Group International of Atlanta. |
Thomas Gaddis

Co-Founder, Factory 404, USA Looking to further his ability to better serve and support the emerging designer community, Thomas co-founded Factory 404 in August 2016. He received his BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design in Fashion/Apparel Design in 2009 and is currently an MFA candidate at Savannah College of Art and Design. Thomas is an expert in garment design and apparel construction with an emphasis in product development in the manufacturing environment. Thomas provides industry training in apparel design and construction. He currently teaches technical design and production workshops with Factory 404 and has served as an instructor for Le Fashion Lab and Factory Girls. He also serves as a frequent guest speaker in the Fashion Department at SCAD’s Atlanta campus. His professional affiliations include IPC E-Textiles Wearables Standards Committee member, AFFOA (Advanced Functional Fabrics of America), Fashion Group International of Atlanta Board Committee Member. |
Troy Nachtigall

Professor of Fashion Research and Technology, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands Troy is a designer practicing and researching fashion and technology. Troy conducts Researcher through Design into sustainable computational craftsmanship coming from a practice of fashion design concentrating on knitwear and shoes. His work focuses on technology and techniques needed for the personalization of clothing and accessories using data, along with the software that drives it. Troy investigates on how designers work with data to analyze, design, manufacture, and use clothing tailored to the wearer. This enables a future where complex problems like sustainability can be addressed by Design. |
