VIRTUAL PARTICIPATION
CALL FOR DESIGN EXHIBITION

Submission Deadline: July 29, 2022

ISWC 2022, the 26th annual International Symposium on Wearable Computers, is the premier event of wearable technology research and scholarship, focusing on issues related to on-body technologies. ISWC brings together researchers, product vendors, fashion designers, textile manufacturers, users, and related professionals to share current research and advances in wearable technology. This includes the design, development, and deployment of ubiquitous and pervasive computing technologies and the understanding of human experiences and social impacts that these technologies facilitate.

The conference will be held on 11-15th September 2022 in Atlanta, USA, and Cambridge, UK (ACM confirmation pending). The Design Exhibition will be virtual and images/videos will be shown at conference locations.

ISWC 2022 is the premier conference for Wearable Computing. ISWC 2022 is collocated with the 2022 ACM International Joint Conference on Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing (Ubicomp’22) with shared Workshops and Tutorials.

Juried Exhibition

ISWC 2022’s Juried Design Exhibition invites submissions of original works everything related to technology worn on the body, such as on-body sensing and sensor networks; responsive technologies for fashion and aesthetics; body extensions such as bionic limbs and smart prosthetics; wearables for professional use, mobile healthcare, or entertainment; wearability and interaction; and mobile interaction with devices and systems. Submissions may comprise any type of wearable technology (electronic, mechanical, textile and garment-based, bio and nano-materials, etc). Awards for the best design will be given in three categories: Aesthetic, Functional, and Fiber Art.

  • Submission deadline: 29th July 2022, 11:59 pm HST
  • Notification of acceptance: 12th August 2022.
  • Camera-ready extended abstract due: 26th August 2022.

Categories

Confused about which category to pick? Many designs address both functional and aesthetic aspects of a problem. Designers should consider in which aspect their design is strongest, and submit it to that category.

1) FUNCTIONAL

Submissions to this category should be functionally-focused wearable designs, aimed at using technology to solve a particular problem or meet a specific need.

2) AESTHETIC

Submissions to this category should be aesthetically-focused wearable designs, aimed at developing an aesthetic or visual effect through the use of technology.

3) FIBER ARTS

Submissions to this category should be non-wearable, but textile- or fiber-integrated innovations. Fiber arts submissions may be functionally or aesthetically focused.

Awards

Awards for the best design will be given in three categories: Aesthetic, Functional and Fiber Art.

Submission

Designers are asked to submit an illustrated design statement detailing the work’s concept, motivation, intended audience and end-use, technological functionality, and execution. Detailed images must illustrate the text.

Please submit your document as one compiled PDF file, formatted according to the ACM SIGCHI Primary Article Template https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template. The submission should not exceed 4 pages, including embedded images and citations. All figures should be included in the document body and referenced in the text. Please cite all references used in the text according to the ACM formatting instructions. The submitted PDF should not exceed 4 pages. Please prepare your paper for blind review: do not include any names or institution affiliations within your submitted PDF.
