VIRTUAL PARTICIPATION
CALL FOR DOCTORAL COLLOQUIUM
The joint UbiComp / ISWC Doctoral Colloquium is a unique opportunity for PhD students to present their key concepts and ideas to a premier scientific panel and receive top-quality feedback from excellent external reviewers, a global scientific audience, and some of the best of their peers. The Doctoral Colloquium offers PhD students the valuable opportunity to engage in a discussion on their work and gain exposure to a variety of perspectives that can help to strengthen and shape their work as they progress towards their degrees. Lively discussions, insights and novel ideas, and new opportunities for cooperation between research groups are also likely outcomes.
PhD students / candidates are invited to present, discuss and defend their work-in-progress or preliminary results in the fields of ubiquitous computing or wearable computing at the Doctoral Colloquium. PhD students and candidates at all stages are invited to submit a thesis position paper. Preference will be given to those, who have already completed a substantial part of the research, but are still 1-2 years away from completing their degree, i.e. to ensure that feedback from the colloquium can still influence the remaining research. Another acceptance criteria is the clarity of the submission. Accepted participants will be expected to give short presentations of their work during the colloquium, followed by a discussion of the project.
Submission Guidelines
Submissions must be 3-4 pages (excluding references) and are required to use the template detailed in the template information page).
The submission should clearly describe the following aspects (suggested headlines):
Problem statement
Related work
Methodology
Evaluation approach
(Expected) contribution / results so far
It is instrumental that authors clearly state what part of the work has been carried out so far and what is being proposed. Your submission should clearly address the following aspects:
Provide keywords with your submission (see the template for explanation).
Please provide an additional page with a short biographical sketch, including the names and affiliations of your research advisor(s), the date when you began your PhD, and the expected date of completion.
Use graphics and add references wisely.
How To Submit
Submissions can be made at https://new.precisionconference.com/submissions (On the submissions tab, select SIGCHI society and UbiComp / ISWC 2021 conference. Then the submission track of UbiComp / ISWC 2021 Doctoral Symposium will appear.
Accepted papers will be published in the UbiComp / ISWC 2021 adjunct proceedings, available through the ACM Digital Library.
Upon Acceptance
Authors of accepted submissions are expected to attend the main conference.
